Bring it on week four of 6th grade drawing! For the first part of the quarter, students have been doing studies, practices, and short projects to get down the basics of drawing. I like to relate my teaching to sports often, and I ask students if they could play a basketball game without learning how to dribble first. Of course this answer is "No Miss Slu", and now students are finally ready to jump into their first basketball game! Students will be creating a Value Self Portrait by focusing on the values found in an image taken of their own portrait. This project is going to be a challenge, but they will look awesome once completed!
What we mean when we talk about Values in the art room is the lightness and darkness of the surface. This Element of Art is extremely important in the subject of Drawing because it helps us, as artist, create more realistic works of art based on the change in light that hits our subject. Each students portrait was reduced to show only FIVE values to create an abstract, yet fun way to create a self-portrait artwork! |
