Welcome back students! I hope your break was as fun as mine, I spent the whole two weeks back in Illinois visiting my family and friends, which was very nice. However, I am so excited to get this quarter going!! There are tons of projects and things for us to learn, so get ready :) Another great thing about being back today, is we are celebrating Bob Ross's birthday. Check out the Google homage to him in the image to the left.
The 6th graders this week were in for a real fun surprise when they received a package in the mail from Coastal College in South Carolina. In this package, addressed to each student, was a little work of art called an "Artist Trading Card". This type of collaborative art is a fun way to share ideas and creativity with new people. The students who sent us the cards are actually pre-service art teachers in their Junior and Senior years of college. So in return now, students at FMS create a little work of art to send back to these new friends. I am still very impressed and proud of the work and writings the 6th graders put into their ATCs. Looking at the few examples above, you can definitely see how lucky our new friends in South Carolina are going to be when they receive them in the mail.
Here's a quick sneak at the tape sculptures the 8th graders completed today in class. All I can say is "WOW!" These life-size figures are made of clear wrap and packaging tape. Students had to work in groups in order to successful "cast" a member of their group into the body pose they developed. These sculptures now are going to be placed all over FMS in order to interact with the area they are in. This "SpiderMan" example in the image is hanging from the ceiling in the art room. Keep checking ARTSONIA for more images for this project as well as more projects as we finish up our first quarter.
